Fraud

The FOODAKAI Global Food Fraud Index provides quarterly information on current global trends in food fraud. Based on official data from food safety authorities, it helps manufacturers, regulatory authorities and the supply chain to identify emerging risks and evaluate recall campaigns.

The number of cases of fraud involving nuts, seeds, and dried fruit products has increased sharply. High demand, strong price pressure and a complex supply chain create ideal conditions for adulteration and mislabelling. This category is therefore likely to remain vulnerable to fraud. Due to their high market value and the fact that they originate from a wide range of regions, fraud risks are also to be expected in the future, particularly in connection with species substitution, incorrect origin labelling and unintentional contamination with undeclared allergens, pesticide residues, heavy metals and mycotoxins. It is therefore of utmost importance to carefully check the authenticity and quality of the products and the reliability of the suppliers.
