The beginning of the year is trade fair season – a look at the ‘green’ trends in the food industry

and a preview of an exciting event

 

BIOFACH in Nuremberg impressively demonstrated that organic food continues to grow and evolve. In 2026, the focus will be on clearer recipes, innovative fermentation techniques and products that support gut health and functional benefits.

Trends towards plant-based proteins, algae products and fermented beverages are becoming particularly important. In addition, healthy, reduced-sugar foods and creative colours and flavours from natural ingredients such as algae and turmeric are becoming increasingly popular. The trade fair was also a hotspot for start-ups.

 

Previously, at Grüne Woche in Berlin, the focus was on organic production, regional specialities, sustainable agriculture and digital solutions for climate-friendly agricultural processes. Particularly exciting was the presence of AgTech start-ups, which presented new technologies for increasing efficiency in agriculture. 

 

The topic of sustainability will also be the focus of this year's FOOD REVOLUTION’ symposium in Mestre near Venice. AGROLAB will be sponsoring this event due to the importance of the topic and the associated new challenges, including those for analytical quality control.
