Flufenacet has been classified by EFSA as a substance capable of causing damage to the human endocrine system (endocrine disruptor).

The authorisation for flufenacet (CAS No. 142459-58-3) is valid until 15 June 2025, and all plant protection products containing this herbicide active substance must be withdrawn from the market by 10 December 2025. A one-year grace period has been granted for remaining stocks held by users. The maximum residue levels for fruit and vegetables are currently already at the limit of determination of 0.05 mg/kg. A maximum level of 0.15 mg/kg still applies to potatoes, but this is likely to be adjusted soon.
