The approval of the active substance Oxamyl, which belongs to the carbamates and was used as an insecticide, will not be renewed.

The EU Commission has announced the non-renewal of the authorisation of Oxamyl (CAS No. 23135-22-0) in the implementing regulation (EU) 2023/741 of 5.4.2023 (corrected on 14.4.23)

Oxamyl has been used as an insecticide and can cause various health problems, such as damage to the nervous system, with prolonged exposure. The EFSA re-evaluation also cited risks to consumers and the environment (water, soil).

Member states must revoke authorisations for plant protection products containing Oxamyl by 01.08.2023 at the latest. The withdrawal period has been shortened and already ends on 01.11.2023.

In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the active ingredient has not been used for some time.

For most fruits and vegetables, the maximum permissible value should subsequently be set at 0.01 mg/kg.
