The South African retailer SPAR Group Ltd. announced to take over a controlling stake in Polish retail chain Piotr i Pawel group.

POLAND Spar International has awarded the master licence for the brand in Poland to Spar Group, which is registered in South Africa. A deal with Piotr i Pawel - which operates 77 delicatessen and supermarket stores plus a wholesale distribution network - would expand its presence to Poland.

Spar is the largest voluntary trade organization in the world, which associates freelance distributors and wholesalers. The Spar chain was established in the early 30's in the Netherlands. Currently, more than 12,500 operate under its name stores in more than 40 countries around the world.

Currently, Spar Group Ltd also operates in several African countries, as well as in Ireland, South West England and Switzerland. The transaction is in charge of Piotr and Paweł at the time of the conflict between the Spar group in South Africa and Spar Polska, a company belonging to the Polish group Bać-Pol about the brand licence.
