Strategic expansion of environmental testing in Eastern Europe
The AGROLAB GROUP has acquired SC Biosol psi SRL (hereinafter: AGROLAB Biosol SRL), headquartered in Ploiești, Prahova County, Romania. This acquisition adds the Group’s first specialised environmental laboratory in Eastern Europe to its European network. At the same time, AGROLAB is entering the rapidly growing Romanian environmental market, creating a strong platform for further regional expansion.
“With Biosol, we are gaining not only a well-established laboratory, but also extensive environmental expertise and many years of regional experience. This site marks a major milestone in our Eastern European strategy,” explains Michael Witiska, Managing Director of the AGROLAB GROUP.
Advanced technological expertise and specialised environmental analysis
The Ploiești laboratory offers a comprehensive portfolio of services extending well beyond standard analytical testing. In addition to conventional analyses of water, soil, and wastewater, the laboratory also specializes in air quality monitoring and noise measurements, supported by a team of 26 highly qualified professionals.
A particular strength of the site lies in its ability to support complex environmental projects, including wastewater treatment plant optimization and soil remediation assessments. The offering is further enhanced by applied environmental analytics and innovative biotechnological solutions.
This combination of specialized analysis and technological expertise significantly strengthens the Group’s capabilities across the Eastern European region.
“The new site is an excellent complement to our existing structures. Biosol brings highly specialized analytical and technological know-how that will allow us to strategically expand and further develop our regional service offering,” emphasizes Paul Wimmer, Managing Director of the AGROLAB GROUP.
A platform for regional growth
Beyond environmental analysis, the Ploiești laboratory will play a key strategic role for additional AGROLAB GROUP services. In the future, the site will act as a regional sales hub for food and feed analysis activities. It will also support the regional distribution of specialised services provided by Institut für Mineralölprodukte und Umweltanalytik GmbH, particularly in the field of petroleum analysis.
In the long term, the Romanian operation is intended to serve as both a blueprint and a foundation for the establishment of further environmental laboratories throughout the region.
Continuity and innovation in site management
Operational and technical continuity are fully ensured. Vlad Popovici, former co-owner and Managing Director, will continue leading the site. In addition to his extensive environmental sector expertise, Popovici brings strong competencies in IT and digitalisation, which AGROLAB intends to leverage for future cross-functional development projects across the Group.
The integration and strategic development of the site will be overseen by Mate Szombathelyi (OU Director South Eastern Europe) together with Pawel Piatas (Regional Head of Sales).
A strong foundation for the future
For Vlad Popovici, the partnership combines financial strength with shared values:
“In 1986, someone sat in an old school building in Oberhummel with a pipette and the firm conviction that careful, patient science makes a difference. In 2000, a small group of researchers in Romania shared exactly the same conviction — different soil beneath their feet, a different language on the labels, but the same principles.
Decades later, our approach to work remains unchanged. We continue to measure carefully and never compromise on quality. We did not build Biosol in order to sell it, but because this work was needed in our part of Europe.
The reason we are now entrusting our company to AGROLAB is that they are not resting on past achievements. They clearly understand where the laboratory business is heading — technologically, digitally, and through the use of AI. This vision, combined with the original commitment to quality, is rare. We are proud to contribute our life’s work to this shared foundation.”
With its new site in Romania, the AGROLAB GROUP is continuing to expand its environmental analysis activities in South-Eastern Europe while broadening its portfolio with specialised environmental analytics and additional expert services.
