Anyone visiting the AGROLAB GROUP’s headquarters in Landshut immediately senses its Lower Bavarian roots. But a glance at the laboratories outside Germany reveals the European mission: to carry the AGROLAB DNA across borders and make the feeling of ‘One AGROLAB’ a reality throughout Europe.
Respect for local identity
Paul Wimmer runs the group not as a mere collection of laboratories, but as a genuine network. It is important to him that internationalisation does not mean imposing a German mould on every country. It is about getting the best of both worlds: Bavarian process discipline paired with the expertise of local specialists. The growth of recent years is not an end in itself, but confirmation that values such as reliability and speed are understood throughout Europe.
“We are not growing simply to have as many flags on the map as possible. We are growing where we can make a strategic difference for our clients. That is healthy growth with a sense of proportion.”
A major milestone in France
A current project highlights our investments abroad: the construction of our first dedicated environmental laboratory building in France. Whilst the industry often relies on rented premises, AGROLAB is sending a clear signal of its commitment to the long term. This site is far more than just a modern building; it is a promise to our customers and local staff: we are here to stay.
“The fact that we are building our first large, purpose-built laboratory building in France is a clear statement of our independence. We consistently invest in our own infrastructure because we believe in the long-term stability of our sites.”
Solidarity when it matters most
At AGROLAB, our international character becomes particularly evident when the going gets tough. Paul Wimmer recalls moments when sites came under pressure due to extremely high volumes of samples. Within a very short space of time, task forces were formed from various countries to provide unbureaucratic support to colleagues – across language barriers. It is this ‘spirit’ that he wants to continue to foster: the pride of being part of a group that supports one another.
“At every site bearing the AGROLAB name, AGROLAB must also be at its core. That means: the same quality, the same IT capabilities, the same philosophy and, above all, the same sense of camaraderie amongst colleagues.”
Looking ahead to the next 40 years
Looking to the future, Paul Wimmer sees the group as a rock-solid foundation in a consolidating market. He intends to continue the European expansion consistently, without losing the down-to-earth approach that has made AGROLAB great.
“We have successfully exported the Bavarian model to Europe. Now it’s a matter of continuing to build on this foundation – with the same passion for detail that we have maintained since the company was founded.
