ACN Annual Report 2022 published

In 2021, the EU Member States established an "Alert and Cooperation Network" ("ACN"), which includes the online platform of the Rapid Alert System (iRASFF), from which we present important messages to you every month in our AGROLAB RADAR.

The ACN also includes data exchange via Administrative Assistance and Co-operation (AAC) and information from the Agri Food Fraud (AFF) network.

The annual report of the ACN network for the year 2022 has now been published.

In the RASFF reporting system, about 20% fewer cases were registered last year than in 2021. With 559 reports, Germany was at the top of the European countries, followed by Belgium and Poland.

Pesticide residues took the top spot in the number of alerts, including Turkey with 430 products from the fruit and vegetable sector alone. The most frequent exceedances were found for the active substances chlorpyrifos, ethylene oxide/chloroethanol and chlorpyriphos-methyl.

In terms of notifications of salmonella in poultry products, Poland took the top spot in 2022 with almost 200 alerts, followed by Nigeria for nuts, nut products and seeds with 66 cases and Brazil for spices (mostly pepper) with 46 alerts. For aflatoxins in nuts, nut products and seeds, the USA (53), Egypt (40), India and Turkey (39 each) stood out.

Food fraud was dominated by the adulteration of honey through the unauthorised addition of sugar.
