In a national unilateral move, the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection has made the disclosure of information on the origin of meat, milk and eggs along the supply chain mandatory for its food businesses.

Initially, the 566th regulation only applies to domestic slaughter and cutting and dairy businesses as well as egg producers in B2B trade. From now on, they must document the respective countries of origin of the primary ingredient (meat, milk, eggs) and indicate them on trade documents.

Italy and France had already passed similar national regulations on tracking - despite the fact that the EU Commission is already preparing a Europe-wide regulation.
