Analytical News: Reliable identification of fish species

We have developed further specific PCR systems for the determination of three economically important edible fish.

 

These are highly specific detection methods for

  • Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar),
  • the genus Clupea spp. and the rainbow/salmon trout
  • rainbow/salmon trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss).

 

In addition to food, the detections are also accredited for the testing of pet food. For cat/dog food in the premium segment, the processed fish species is often stated - this can now be reliably detected with the tests.

 

The prerequisite is always that amplifiable fish-specific DNA can be isolated from the product. This is usually very successful even with processed and canned products.
