The approval for the use of the active substance in Bromoxynil expires. The approval for Ethametsulfuron-methyl was denied. As a rule, the maximum residue limits are also subsequently reduced to the limit of determination.

The EU Commission withdrew the approval of Bromoxynil (CAS No. 1689-84-5) by Regulation 2020/1276 on 14.9.2020 due to high consumer risks. The approval for the fungicide Benalaxyl (CAS No. 71626-11-4) was not renewed by Regulation 2020/1280 due to concerns about possible groundwater contamination and long-term risks to birds and non-target anthropods.  For Ethametsulfuron-methyl (CAS No 97780-06) the application for approval was withdrawn by the manufacturer.

The Member States in which the herbicidal active substance Bromoxynil was used must now in turn withdraw authorisations for plant protection products by 17 March 2021.  For fungicides containing Benalaxyl, authorisations must be withdrawn by 5 April 2021. Users have until 17 September 2021, or 5 October 2021 for Benalaxyl, to use up remaining stocks.
