Here is a literal extract from an answering letter by DG SANTE of EFSA to a joint letter by FoodDrinkEurope, in this matter, asking for a reconsideration of the decision about deferral periods and MRLS for certain products:
“…Given the serious health concerns identified by EFSA, the Committee agreed that it is not possible to determine MRLs based on a risk assessment and therefore all MRLs must be lowered to the limit of determination. For the same reason, no additional transitional measures can be provided for products that will have been produced in the EU or imported into the EU before the Regulation becomes applicable. To be noted that the draft Regulation does not lead to immediate disruptions in trade as the new MRLs will only become applicable in October 2020 …“.
