Schlachthof Rind

The closure of slaughterhouses and meat plants within the Dutch VION Group in Germany continues. Now the convenience food plant in Großostheim near Aschaffenburg (Bavaria) is also being closed.

At this site, convenience products such as hamburger patties were produced and meat was offered in self-service packaging for the retail trade. Vion had taken over the site from Salomon Hitburger GmbH in 2003 and most recently operated it under the name "Salomon FoodWorld®".

In 2022, an expansion of the production lines in Großostheim was even announced, but only one year later the closure seemed inevitable to the group, not least due to declining market expectations for meat products in Germany.

The departments affected by the closure are to be relocated to the Altenburg site in Thuringia.
